Controversial Kana Muchitidako singer Jacob Moyana has lambasted
organisers of the just-ended 21st February Movement gala for fanning
tribalism in the showbiz circuit.
Moyana, the man behind the contentious song, is bitter following the
gala organisers’ decision to stop him from performing because of his
controversial lyrics.
“Event organisers invited me to perform at the gala but I was surprised at the eleventh hour when they shifted goal posts, telling me that my music was not worthy to be performed at such a platform because it is ‘dirty’,” Moyana complained.
“People are failing to understand my lyrics, Kana Muchitidako (If you want us there) is not vulgar but some critics are trying their level best to link the phrase to a dirty message. Apart from that, there are so many dirty songs such as Seunononga being performed everywhere, so why the fuss with mine?
“The bottom line here is that the organisers are fanning tribalism, I come from a marginalised community (Chipinge) especially in terms of arts, hence they prefer artistes from Harare to participate at major events, period!”
However, event organisers insisted that Moyana’s lyrics were not fit for a family affair such as the 21st February Movement.
“Zanu PF Harare province committee disapproved Moyana from performing because of his controversial lyrics,” event organiser Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions, said.
“Of course Moyana might argue that his lyrics are clean but the general meaning is dirty so as music promoters we advise him to change them such that the music can appeal even to the corporate world.”
