Residents from Kuwadzana high density suburb are living in fear of a disease outbreak as garbage has accumulated for over two months with the Harare City Council failing to collect. The residents now fear for their lives as rains have left many pools of stagnant water which might get contaminated by the uncollected garbage.
Others have called for the intervention of central government to quickly address the looming health hazard.
The Harare City Council Director of Works Engineer, Philip Pfukwa says the council has been failing to collect the garbage due to challenges that include the transport fleet.
“We have been having problems and we acknowledge the backlog but we will clear all areas in the next two weeks,” said Pfukwa.
The rainy season usually records an upsurge in typhoid, cholera and dysentery cases, diseases regarded as primitive and preventable as they require clean environments to be curbed.
