HARARE – Gospel musician Mathias Mhere says the ongoing saga that saw his marriage crumble after he discovered that his close friend Gift Mahlupeka was having an affair with his wife, Susan Dzinamarira, will not affect his work.
Mhere performed at the just ended 21st February Movement gala that was held at the City Sports Centre of Friday and on the sidelines of that show he told journalists that his marital issues will not affect his work.
“That has nothing to do with my work and I want to thank Zimbabweans for their support,” he said. The musician said despite all that he went through for the past weeks, he has been preparing for his shows.
“We have a number of shows lined up here in Zimbabwe before we leave for the United States of America for another show. The first tour in that country comes at a time when we have our fourth album and we are looking forward to it.”
“For a long time they have been waiting for my visit. I am ready for this and I will not disappoint my fans but will deliver good acts during the shows.
“There are promoters who said they want us to launch the album in the US and we will do that in a special way. We are travelling for a blessed tour because we will be unveiling a fresh project,” he said.
Last week Mahlupeka, who allegedly cheated with Mhere’s wife, claimed the WhatsApp texts at the centre of the scandal, were in fact written by the popular musician himself.
“Most of the WhatsApp text messages published in the media and being circulated on social media were sent by Mhere to his wife using my phone,” said Mahlupeka.
“The truth is that Susan had decided to divorce Mhere after unearthing illicit affairs between him and several girlfriends. She had had enough.”
Mahlupeka added that Mhere asked him to be part of a trap that would turn the tables against Susan.
“In a bid to avoid the divorce that would have brought negative publicity ahead of the launch of his latest album, Mhere had to act decisively. He asked me to be part of the trap and the WhatsApp texts were meant to create evidence that would nail Susan,” he said.
