An unlicenced teenage kombi driver from Nyameni in Marondera has been sentenced to six years in prison for driving without a valid driver's licence.
Paul Mudzonga, 17, of 23 Tonga Close in Nyameni appeared recently before Mashonaland East regional magistrate, Josephine Sande, facing two charges of driving a commuter omnibus without a valid driver's licence and hitting another car on the road.
According to the state, on October 10 last year, Mudzonga was driving the kombi carrying passengers at night along Ruzawi Road when he was involved in an accident.
He then tried to make an out of court settlement with the driver of the damaged car but failed to raise the agreed money, forcing the victim to make a police report which led to the arrest of Mudzonga and his subsequent conviction.
Besides the six year jail term, the regional magistrate also fined Mudzonga $100.
