Threads of surprises at Luciano show.

Tawanda Marwizi Arts Correspondent
There was a thread of surprises at Luciano show that was held at Andy Miller hall on Friday night. Though it was fairly attended, the show failed to draw thousands of music lovers as expected by the organisers despite having an array of top performers in the country.Jah Prayzah, Suluman Chimbetu, Dadza D, Sniper Storm, Winky D, Tocky Vibes, Ndlowane Super Sounds, top Zimbabwean DJs Templeman and Garry B were among the performers of the night.

Chimbetu was the first to take stage and the musician’s song “Nyuchi” left fans asking for more. He left the stage for Sniper Storm who divided his act into two parts.

The first phase of his act had reggae songs before he shifted to Zimdancehall.

His efforts to please the Rastafarians that dominated the crowd hit a brick wall as they seems to be unmoved by his act.

He played his hit songs such as “Kuvarira Mukati” and “Love Yemusoja” but he could not get the expected response from the crowd until he played the song “Ebola” that was popular with fans.

Judgement Yard thrilled fans as they warmed the stage for the main act around midnight.

The show came alive when The Messenger, as Luciano is fondly known, went on stage.

Contrary to reports that the musician would be flown to the venue by a local aviation company, the musician arrived in a convoy that had promoters and fellow artistes.

The musician performed most of his popular hit and fans were happy with his performance.

Backed by Mic Inity’s Hotter Fyah band, the musician played songs “Give Praise”, “It’s me Again Jah”, “Messenger”, “Deliverance”, “Sweep Over My Soul”, “Leaders”, “He is my friend”, “Who Could it Be”, “Over the Heels”, “One Way Ticket”, “Serve Jah”, “Lord Give me Strength”, “Material World”, “Ulterior Motives”, “Knocking on Heavens’ Door” and “Never Give Up”.

At the end of his performing time he called artistes Dhadza D and Cello Culture among others to the stage.

Dadza D left fans convinced that Zimbabwe is full of talented artistes. He performed just one song that brought the house alive and fans showered praises on the musician.

Templeman and Garry B went on stage and played songs from different musicians.

Winky D pulled another surprise of the night as he failed to live to expectations.

He had a bad day in the office as fans were seen waving him goodbye and whistling at the “Paita Party” hit maker to go off stage.

For years the musician has been outshining visiting musicians but the night was just not his.

He left the stage and paved way for Ndolwane Super Sounds.

The group lead by Martin Sibanda performed but the crowd was not familiar with their music and they were booed. They were forced off the stage after performing a few songs.

However, when Tocky Vibes went on stage, he turned tables and stole the limelight.

Since last year the musician has not been in form at big shows but he managed to light up the event.

Only two songs “Toti Toti” and “Hande Toki” were enough to convince fans that he has managed to bring great live show material on his latest album.

Up until the last performer Jah Prayzah surprises were still the order of the day.

The musician did his best but failed to thrill fans and many walked out of the show during his performance.

Organisers of the event described it as a successful show.
