SHE loved to laugh and make jokes, and dreamt of travelling the world when she finished her tourism studies.
But then Yamkela Lwabi (20) fell in love with a known woman abuser . . .
And now she’s dead after the boyfriend (22) allegedly assaulted her and bashed her head against the tar road!
Yamkela died in Groote Schuur Hospital, a day after the attack at Langabuya in Mbekweni, near Paarl in the early hours of Sunday morning. Her death was due to bleeding on her brain.
Her cousin Olwethu Dyongo from Khayelitsha witnessed the assault.
She told Daily Sun she and Yamkela had been to the Backstage Tavern and were going to Yamkela’s boyfriend’s backyard shack.
“Yamkela wanted to sleep over at his place, but he was inside with another woman. When Yamkela called his name and pulled away the cardboard covering the window, he became angry.
“He rushed out, chasing us down the road. He caught Yamkela and started to beat her, kicking her and bashing her against the tar road.
“I watched at a distance in disbelief,” said Olwethu.
Yamkela’s older sister Bulelwa Kepelele said it was just past 1am on Sunday when a neighbour told them her sister was lying in the street.
“We rushed to the scene and found her lying face-up, arms open and bleeding from her right ear. Her upper body was wet.
“I called her name but got no response,” said Bulelwa.
Heartbroken mum Nongeyi Kepelele (59) said: “She was overjoyed on Saturday evening when my sister’s children arrived to spend the weekend with us. My last hours with her were blessed. She told me she loved me. I still cannot believe my baby is gone.”
The evil boyfriend allegedly also stabbed the mother of his child a while ago. He has disappeared from the area following the incident.
Police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said: “Circumstances surrounding the death of the 20-year-old woman are under investigation.
“A murder case docket was registered. The suspect has not been arrested and the investigation continues.”
