PESTERING a friend to buy another round of opaque beer ended tragically for a Chivi man when he was stabbed to death by his drinking mate.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna confirmed the death of Isheunesu Nyoni from Matukeni Village in Chivi.
Ronald Mafukidze from the same area has since been arrested over the murder.
Asst Inspector Nduna said Nyoni and Mafukidze were drinking beer separately at Chehoba market centre in Chivi, when Nyoni approached his friend and accused him of not buying beer.
"He (Nyoni) kept on pestering Mafukidze to buy him the beer. A misunderstanding ensured between the two and Nyoni started assaulting Mafukidze.
"Other patrons tried to restrain Nyoni from assaulting his friend but he managed overpower them and continued to attack Mafukidze," said the police spokesman.
Angered by the battering, Mafukidze drew an Okapi knife from his pocket and stabbed Nyoni once on the left side of the chest. The latter started bleeding profusely from the wound and died on the spot.
Asst Insp Nduna said other patrons apprehended Mafukidze and took him to Ngundu Police Station where he was arrested and is set to appear in court soon.
