WHY SHOULD I GO TO CHURCH? APOSTLE PRIDE SIBIYA Review by Vengayi Zano
“…the church is upholding not the interests of a class but the cause of humanity.” Godfrey Kurth
Socrates, a philosopher in Ancient Greece, who is generally considered the father of Western philosophy is said to be one of the wisest men to live not because he had the answers to every question but because he knew the right questions to ask. It follows then, that the quality of answers we get is premised on the type of questions we ask.
In my numerous reading and researching expeditions nowhere has the significance of the church in the life of the believer been captured more vividly than in the book “Why should I go to Church?” authored by Apostle Pride Sibiya. From its inception about two millennia ago, a barrage of questions have been relentlessly hurled at the church, a few questions, if any, have sought to query the reason behind the cardinal rule of going to church.
The question “why should I go to church?” seems at first to be odd, if not absurd or maybe misplaced, after all, almost all religious adherents are mandated to gather together for some rituals and ceremonies. However upon reading and rereading the book “Why Should I go to Church?” it becomes apparent that the author intents to restore sanity into the whole business of attending church because over the years going to church has metamorphosed into a dogmatic and fashionable trend that has robbed the church of its lustre to those that still bother to go and for the horde of the unchurched, the ever growing scandals by men of the cloth provides them with convenient excuses to avoid church.
With the advent of the digital age church is no longer tied to time and space, it can be practiced anytime of the day or night via the media without going to a sacred place. So “why should I go to church?” when I can make use of the mobile phone, computer or plasma/LED screen. “Why Should I go to Church?” qualifies as a brilliant masterpiece in proffering relevant answers to the probing question. The book comes in at an opportune time as the church faces the most tempestuous storm of her mighty history, the rise of the counterfeit church. With a proven record spanning two decades of unflinchingly loyalty to the truth, Apostle Sibiya offers a bold interpretation that not only exposes the bogus church but also dispels the corpus of myths about the genuine church.
Respectfully submitted.
