A local man was arrested after he was caught red-handed raping his wife, police confirmed. Manicaland acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxon Chananda, said the suspect, John Muyererwa of Dzobo village, Chief Zimunya, was arrested for raping his wife in a bushy area after they failed to resolve their marital dispute.
Chananda said Muyererwa and his wife, 26, separated sometime in February this year and were in the process of solving their dispute with the relatives mediating.
However, on the day in question, Muyererwa called his wife and they visited her grandfather for redress but they did not reach an agreement.
On their way back, along Chimanimani Road near Fushu Garage, Muyererwa reportedly tripped his wife to the ground and forced himself on her.
The woman screamed for help and a passer-by heard the noise and rushed to investigate.
When Muyererwa saw somebody approaching he took to his heels but was later arrested by police after his wife made a report.
The woman was taken for medical examination and Muyererwa is expected to appear in court soon.
“People must always consent to sex even in marriage or risk being jailed,” said Chananda.
