1. Stop Looking for a “Push-Button” System

There are people out there who have the audacity to claim that making money online is easy and all you need to do is spend $99 to buy a piece of software that will automatically make you rich with no effort on your part. No doubt you’ve run into these guys at some point. They lure you in with fake screenshots of affiliate accounts that show earnings tat reach into the thousands of dollars per day and tell you “Anyone can do it! Buy this software now!”

What’s really upsetting is that these are some of the best selling online products. People fall for this crap constantly. The creators of a very convincing sales page laugh all the way to the bank while you’re stuck with poor advice, no support, and a $99 charge on your credit card. And then after you feel like giving up, they come back at you with upsell after upsell. They’ll tell you, “Of course you didn’t make money. You forgot to buy our premium support package and super ultra deluxe addon software! It only costs $3,995! Cash or credit?”

It makes me sick really. Every day people are wiped clean and hung out to dry by these slimy and immoral marketers. You have to understand that there’s no guarantees when it comes to making money online. There is no magical software that you can run that will automatically deposit money into your bank account each month. Anyone telling you otherwise is just after the money in your wallet.

Make no mistake, however. There ARE real ways of making money online and it can be very lucrative, but it involves WORK.

I started out with the intention of making money online by starting an Internet Marketing career right out of college. It took about 6 months before I started to see some form of significant income. It’s been about three years now and I’m making more online than would have had I accepted some entry level job right after graduating.

How did I achieve this? I found proper training and I worked my butt off until I saw success.
The thing is, Internet Marketing had nothing to do with my major. I didn’t study how to run an online business or take classes in finance or anything. I reached out for help and paid money for training. I didn’t instantly see success, but I learned how to build an online business and make it grow.

2. Set Small, Achievable Goals

This secret goes hand-in-hand with the first one. I find that most people turn to the Internet with the expectation of replacing a regular full-time salary instantly. Their list of goals looks pretty much like this.

1. Decide to start an online business
2. Become rich

You need to ditch this notion and understand that building an online business from home takes time. There’s no solution out there that’s going to make you money instantly, regardless of how much you invest. Instead, you need to set small, achievable goals and build from there.

Here’s a much more realistic goal list for you…

1. Decide to start an online business
2. Begin training, understanding the terminology, & getting comfortable
3. Do some basic research and find topics to write about
4. Build your first website
5. Create articles to fill your website
6. Learn how to get these articles listed in Google
7. Attract visitors and grow traffic
8. Connect with advertisers
9. Start making $1/day
10. Start building a newsletter
11. Discover new ways of getting people to your site
12. Grow to $5/day
13. Connect with readers by creating a Facebook fan page or Twitter account
14. Increase income to $10/day
15. Guest blog and increase your online presence
16. Aim to break $1,000 per month
17. Create your own product to sell
18. Start new projects and expand
19. Celebrate your success

As you can see, this is a much more defined list with achievable goals in there. It could take days or weeks to move between each list item, but the point is that you’re always accomplishing something and progressing forward instead of just staring at one, seemingly unachievable, goal.
