CHIBUKU Road To Fame participant and sungura musician Mark Ngwazi has attacked pastors and prophets who use their influence to swindle followers of their hard-earned cash in a new album titled Zvandigumbura.
In the song, he blames desperate women for fanning evil deeds by “always flocking” to church pastors and prophets who end up abusing them.
In some of the lyrics of the title track Zvandigumbura, Ngwazi seemingly takes a dig at the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder Walter Magaya, United Family International Church leader Emmanuel Makandiwa and jailed Robert Martin Gumbura leader of RMG End Time Message church.
“Pastor vapedza vakadzi muchurch....zvandigumbura. Hameno vanoda kuendako tangai magaya mungazoguma makandiwa musango,” goes the song.
The Njanja Express frontman told the Weekend Post that he penned the song after being inspired by the increase in numbers of people who masquerade as men of God. “The church has changed tremendously; nowadays people are being fleeced of their hard-earned cash by these people masquerading as pastors and prophets.
“I guess it is part of my responsibilities as a musician to warn and guide the society,” he said. However, Ngwazi denied that he deliberately mentioned surnames of popular prophets in the form of Magaya, Makandiwa and jailed pastor Gumbura.
“Singing and talking are two different things, I was singing and the names just happened to suit my message, I was not referring to anybody in the song,” he said.
Ngwazi is a member of Roponeso Apostolic Church.
“I even warned women in apostolic churches from only respecting prophets from Masowe but also their husbands,” he said.
The album Zvandigumbura is Ngwazi’s debut project and it comprises seven songs. Zvandigumbura was recorded at Diamond Studios and the artistic workmanship of veteran music producer Bothwell Nyamhondera can be felt on the album. Songs making up the project include Batai Imbwa Dzenyu, Zvandigumbura, Chengeta Mhuri, Pakadoma, Usapinzwe Fear, Ebola Marwadzo and Ndabata Datya. —Vasco Chaya
