When you pay your maid $120 we have strategies in place to make sure your maid keeps $50 only and the $70 goes to Magaya. This is happening to most PHD members. A significant proportion of their income is gobbled by church requirements ,in the end they keep only just a little for them to get by until the end of the month. Partnerships, tithes,offerings, seed sacrifices are over emphasised to the point that you feel it's a sin not to be part of it. Promotions for anointing oil and devotional books are the order of the day. It is a well thought out plan that the Sunday service lasts the whole day because one is forced to buy lunch, water, drink or something to eat.
All these food businesses are owned and run by his wife Tendai Katsiga Magaya, By the time the service ends, we are holding most of your money and you are holding our products. Magaya boldly says "'dambudziko raunaro harienderani ne offering or seed yawakabata' your problem requires serious sacrifice to the Lord". This is serious emotional blackmail because when someone is reminded of their predicament or sad situation, one tends to become emotional and do anything to escape that situation. Eventually one is emotionally manipulated to part with that hard earned money with the hope that they can miraculously become wealthy. Its all a mind game to him.
Anointing oil is our number one income generating product in the ministry.
Our Cost of availing anointing oil is $0. 50c per bottle, the DVD is less than $1 total cost for both anointing oil and DVD is $1.50 we then hide behind buy a DVD and get anointing oil free, the DVD is sold for $10, giving Magaya a profit of $8.50 per sell of a DVD and anointing oil.
When other churches were making money by selling DVDs, we realised that this concept was not for us, as Magaya personally acknowledges that he is not eloquent in his preaching as other well known preachers in Zimbabwe and I guess we can all agree with that.
At Magaya's request we have since started collecting DVD's and CD's from other ministries with pastors, apostles or prophets who are strong in the word. Magaya spends time listening to these messages, twists the sermons a bit then passes them on as his messages from God. We believe many of you who have bought our DVDs can attest to that.
Anointing oil was never our concept, we copied a certain church in town which had issued anointing oil and it was reported that miracles were happening there.We had to come up with a strategy on how we could ride on the popularity of the anointing oil.Our church does not give anything for free unless if its for marketing purposes and it will be highly publicised in the print media.
We couldn't sell anointing oil because our competing churches don't sell it.The only strategy was to accompany the oil with something that seemed to be more valuable,so DVDs were suggested and "buy a DVD and get magical anointing oil free." became the order of the day.We know many people don't even listen to the DVD's they just buy the DVD's because its a condition for one to get the anointing oil. Maths is a difficult subject but can anyone really say the anointing oil is free after buying a DVD and anointing oil that costs $1.50 for $10? Most Pirated music in town is going for $2, after the vendor selling that particular DVD has made a profit, so how can anyone think the anointing oil is for free? Together the DVD and anointing oil selling even for $5 would have been a rip off, for it would have been 200% profit what more at $10? Which is 600% profit, it's pure daylight robbery.
Cooking oil in supermarkets costs $4 for 2L, our anointing oil is 10ML meaning from a 2L we can fill up 200 containers with our anointing oil Remember when you buy cooking oil from OK at $4 there is profit for the supermarket already, as for PHD we get everything direct from manufacturers? Our costs are very very minimal . It is very sad but it is what it is, anointing oil is just one of our business projects which we are pushing to unsuspecting members.
