After forty long years of research, experiment and hardworking, a South African doctor Sonnet Ehlers invented a female condom with razor-sharp spikes that aims to discourage the rape cases.
Despite some objections and controversies, these teeth containing female condoms (originally named as Rape-aXe ) are extremely horrible to rapists.
Female Condoms With Sharp Teeth Is Combating Rape Cases |
Anti-rape condom for women. Rape-aXe condoms are designed to wear like tampons. The inner portion contains teeth. Once a penis enters into it, it gets stuck and only doctors can remove it.
Girls can get the time to escape. Once the spikes containing condom gets hooked on, it creates terrible pain making the person even unable to walk. That may give time to the victim to escape easily.
Dr. Sonnet Ehlers who worked with rape victims for four decades believes her product would discourage rapists
Long years back, a rape victim came to Ehlers. She recalls the moment like this: “She looked at me and said, ‘If only I had teeth down there.’ I promised her I’d do something to help people like her one day.” After the incident, she started working for the product.
Easy to wear and protection guaranteed. Sonnet distributed 30,000 condoms during the World Cup. The device is still not formally launched in the market. Sonnet says once the trail period gets over, the condoms will be available at $2 per piece.
Rape-aXe bagged many objections and controversies. Even many people told this product disgusting because it looks impractical and women have to wear it all the time. Dr. Sonnet says: “Yes, my device may be a medieval, but it’s for a medieval deed that has been around for decades, I believe something’s got to be done … and this will make some men rethink before they assault a woman.”
