A 26-year-old man who raped a mentally challenged woman was last Friday jailed for an effective 12 years by a Gweru magistrate.
Taurai Mhoga of Clarans Farm, Dorset in Shurugwi, was convicted by regional magistrate, Morgan Nemadire on rape charges and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Three years were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
In passing sentence Nemadire said the moral blameworthiness of the accused was high as he was welcomed at the complainant's home by her relatives as their own son.

Prosecutors told the court that on January 27 this year the complainant was alone at home when Mhoga arrived at around 12 noon.
Mhoga told the woman that he wanted to charge his cell phone and entered the spare bedroom where she was resting without knocking.
Complainant woke up but he pushed her on the bed before raping her.
"After putting cellphone on charger, accused pushed complainant on the bed and raped her once and threatened her not to tell anyone or scream," prosecutors said.
"After raping complainant, accused wiped his manhood using her pants and also wiped complainant private parts with the same pants."
The following day complainant told one Siphiwe Mashoko, a neighbour what had happened and a report was made to the police leading to the arrest of Mhoga.
