Ricky Hatton was a good fighter whose attacking style was thrilling to watch, but it would also leave him open to big punches.
It happened against Manny Pacquiao, but before that, Floyd Mayweather handed Hatton his first career loss on their December 8th bout in 2007.
Hatton was actually doing quite well early in the fight before he grew frustrated with Mayweather’s elusiveness, so Hatton got more aggressive until his TKO in the 10th round. He attempted to throw a straight left when Mayweather ducked out of the way and hit him with a hard left hook that sent him barreling into the corner.
Hatton got up but was clearly shaken, so Mayweather went in for the kill, hitting him with a flurry of punches before Hatton fell to the ground and the ref called the fight.
Hatton came back from the loss with two victories before his career was effectively ended after a brutal loss to Manny Pacquiao in 2009. Speaking about Mayweather earlier this year before the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout, Hatton explained why he thought Floyd would win:

After a few rounds, Mayweather will do what he does best and suss things out. He always manages to adapt his style for the opponent he’s facing and always finds a way to win. Love him or loathe him, he’s a genius.
