A member of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) was recently fined $200 after he assaulted his wife's boyfriend.Elvis Mutiki, 29, who is based at the 2 Brigade HQ in Harare, appeared before a Marondera magistrate Jabulani Mzinyathi facing charges of assaulting Abel Chigwaza, 21.
State prosecutor Tariro Chamisa told the court that Mutiki visited his in-laws’ residence in Marondera looking for his wife Millicent Muruwa, 20, where she was staying while he was at work in Harare.

An incensed Mutiki who was clad in military uniform, started assaulting Chigwaza before telling him to report the beating wherever he wanted. Mutiki then force marched the lover to a nearby police station. Along the way he pushed him into a fire lit at some house.
Chagwaza was seriously burnt on the right hand and referred to Marondera hospital for treatment, leading to the arrest of Mutiki.
In sentencing Mutiki, Magistrate Mzinyathi warned the soldier against resorting to violence as a way of resolving issues. He also warned Mutiki to desist from abusing state property such as military uniform to commit violence.
Mutiki was also left stunned in court when he was told by his wife that although he had paid lobola for her, she no longer loved him and she was now co-habiting with Chagwaza.
