Afro-fusion and traditional music diva Hope Masike is on cloud nine following her recent nomination in the National Arts Merit Awards that comes hard on the heels of her KORA nomination.
The NAMA ceremony will be held at 7Arts Theatre on Saturday.
Despite recent publications that questioned why female artists were failing to make waves like their male counterparts, Hope has defied the odds by going for All African KORA and her NAMA nomination has iced her cake.
Hope said she is excited about both awards and she wants to show people that women can also match their male counterparts.
“I am actually excited about both nominations, the NAMA nomination for ‘Outstanding Female Musician’ and the KORA for the ‘Best Video’ for my song ‘Huyai Tinamate’ directed by Charles Mawungu.
“I can say to be nominated at home is the best experience ever because I have realised that most musicians are celebrated not on home soil but outside, so it feels great to be nominated at home.
“I also want to show those that look down on women that we can also make the grade on the international scene and my KORA nomination proves that,” Hope said.
She added that although she is happier to be nominated at home she is however appealing to all Zimbabweans to rally behind her and support her for the prestigious KORA Awards.
“I am appealing to all Zimbabweans to vote for me on my KORA nomination ahead of the KORA awards which will be held in Namibia on March 20. It is not too late you know, all you have to do is just to simply SMS KORA 78 to 248984000.
“I would really appreciate if you guys vote because it is a chance for me to shine and raise the country’s flag high. My video for the song ‘Ndinewe’ is coming out soon too, and I am sure it will also make waves on different platforms. I am celebrating each day, thankful to God and to my fans.”
