Chelsea’s new manager Antonio Conte could face suspended six-month match-fixing sentence

Chelsea’s next manager Antonio Conte could face suspended six-month match-fixing sentence after a prosecutor formalised his request to see the Italian punished for fraud accusations.

Conte was not in attendance as Roberto Di Martino formalised his request on Tuesday when the fast-track trial started.

A £6,500 fine has also been requested by the prosecutor, with Conte accused of sports fraud during his time in charge of Siena during the 2010/11 season.

Siena’s 1-0 victory over Albinoleffe in May 2011 is under investigation and Conte, when in charge of Juventus, was ordered to serve a four-month ban for not reporting match fixing.

The Lecce-born manager will take over the reigns from interim boss Guus Hiddink at Chelsea after Euro 2016, where he will lead Italy at the championship.

Conte, who has always maintained his innocence, has the right to appeal if he is found guilty at the ruling in mid-May.
