Motherhood is a very important part of life for every woman. One of the things we dread is being judged as bad mothers. In Africa, if your child does these things, you are deemed to be a poor mama to them.
Mama is not an easy job to do. And it seems like all those neighbors and busybodies around you tend to make it even harder! They closely watch your children to produce a verdict: a bad mother! It is up to you to heed to them or not, but you should be aware of the things that can lead to much criticizing going your way. Here is a quick list of “deadly sins” mothers commit in Africa:
A child does this? Stop them or be labeled bad mother in Africa! |
The mother should be enough to keep the child calm and happy! Is that really so? Pacifiers can help you get few moments of quietness and few more hours of sleep, but that’s the easy mothering way!
2. Sucking their fingers
What else are they to such since pacifiers are out of the question?
3. No breastfeeding or too much of it
It seems like everyone around you knows what is better for your child! How much is too much? Well, just go and ask your neighbor or mother in law!

Again what does “too” mean? Set up a poll among your good neighbors to find out!
5. Kids watching TV
Some would say you are a bad mother for letting them while others would judge you for not turning it on.
6. Physical punishments
Again some would say you do little spanking and that’s why your kids behave like that and others would label you as a bad mama for even touching a child.
7. Eating takeout food
It’s a mortal sin of motherhood! If someone notices your kids eating such food even once, they would deem you to be a bad mother forever!
