How to Marry An Ex-Prostitute ... Danielle Cameroona

The time you’d decide to get married in Lome, you’d likely marry an ex-prostitute. Yesterday night, I was getting back home when a lady yelled at me.

“What are you doing in the night”, she asked me.

“I’m out for dinner. How are you?”, I responded.

“Huh… You have left your wife at home and you go to see mistresses, aren’t you?”, she pressed forward.

“No, no. It’s not like that. I’m not married. I have no wife. I use to eat outside. I don’t really have time for a woman or mistresses”, I responded obliged, and politely.

“You are a liar. Haven’t you told my boss some time ago that you have a son. Where is the mother?” The Lady insisted.

The lady was quite invasive. I don’t even know her name. She sells lemon juice next to one of the restaurant, I’m used to go.

“Yes, I have a son. He is living in Europe with his mom”. I replied, keeping my coolness, regardless of the obvious abuse of curiosity.

“Well… So, you don’t see him anymore?” The Lady pursued.
“I do. I was back from Europe two months ago. I wish I can see him more. What are you doing in the night?” I asked.

“I’m out for fresh wind. You know what I don’t believe you travel to Europe. You look like one of us, not a person who could buy tickets and travel to Europe. I like you, but I don’t believe you”, the Lady commented.

“Well… I’m happy you said I look like one of yours. Thanks for the chat, I have to go now”.

“Remember, if you’d build me a storied villa, I’ll marry you. My dream is to live in storied building, second or third floor”, the lady said laughing excitingly.

I smiled, then moved to an old lady selling hot, nightly sand roasted ground nuts. I bought a small bag for $0.7 and continued my way back home.

I ate the nuts. I reached home after 8 minutes. I drank a glass of water then went to the bathroom.

(… This post is too long already… I wanted to talk about the expanding phenomenon of casual prostitution in my city, where it became normal or socially acceptable for girls to prostitute to round the end of the month. It’d be for my next post.)
