Hon Joseph Wirba, SDF MP who fled Cameroon following attempts by government to arrest him earlier this year has been resurfaced in the National Assembly.
Hon Wirba was marked for arrest alongside many other influential Anglophones who are currently gnashing their teeth in the dungeons for speaking out against perceived injustices against the minority English-speaking citizens of the North West and South West regions.
Reporters present in the hemicycle of the house of assembly in Yaounde, say, the candid parliamentarian of Jakiri Special Constituency took the rostrum this morning to speak out, but was interrupted. He however managed to announce his return and mission.
Dressed in a blue suit, white shirt and coffee brown tie and wearing a broad smile, “Wirba is back. I’m back for the same purpose. You cannot shut up the mouths of a people;” he is reported to have told the House.
It should be recalled that Hon Wirba was absent during the last session of parliament. It should be noted that SDF MPs had stood by him despite controversial statements from John Fru Ndi, National Chairman of the SDF who appeared to have unleashed the outspoken MP to his supposed oppressors- he had dissociated himself and the party from a rally Hon Wirba organised in Kumbo shortly before the delegate general for national security issued a warrant for his arrest.
The MPs of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, rioted during the previous session of parliament and repeatedly blocked the election of a new executive bureau of the National Assembly, in protest of parliament’s lukewarm attitude towards the warrant issued for an MP who is protected by parliamentary immunity.
The elections however took place with Cavaye Yeguie Djibril re-elected Speaker of the National Assembly ; a post he has occupied since 1992.
