Angola will elect its first new leader since 1979 on Wednesday, as President Jose Eduardo dos Santos prepares to step down.
He’s the second-longest serving African ruler after Equatorial Guinea’s Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who took office about a month earlier.
Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe, Cameroon’s Paul Biya, the Republic of Congo’s Denis Sassou Nguesso and Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni are the continent’s other leaders who’ve held power for more than three decades.
