Dr. Divine Banda Chemuta, Chairperson of the National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms, has unequivocally stated that the commission condemns violence instigated by both activists and security officers.
Speaking during a press conference on October 10, Dr. Chemuta frowned against many hate speeches which he says are now rampant on media platforms. To him, properly, sustained and inclusive dialogue will bring lasting solutions to the problems raised by the Cameroon Anglophone community.“Since the beginning of the crisis, the commission has always and is still standing for dialogue. The commission report on the crises produced in February recommends the use of a mediator in dialogue to facilitate the resolution of the crisis. In a press release on August 31, we also called for the resumption of schools and an end to ghost towns. All these in search for a solution to the crisis.

The Chairperson equally lauded the legislative arm of government for the unity march they orchestrated on October 1 but insisted that they could do more. According to him, the lawmakers can take the lead in encouraging a healthy debate on effective decentralisation, which he revealed is promoted by many Cameroonians.
