Breaking News - Police Arrest 'Fleeing' ZIFA Boss Phillip Chiyangwa |
Gwesela said the ZIFA boss was supposed to have presented prizes to outstanding players who featured in Zimbabwe’s Greatest Footballers’ Tournament. They included players like Moses Chunga, Madinda Ndlovu, Peter Ndlovu and several former international soccer stars.
Police were not reachable for comment and Chiyangwa was not responding to calls on his three mobile phones.
Chiyangwa is believed to have been part of a faction known as Generation 40, which wanted former First Lady Grace Mugabe to succeed her husband Robert Gabriel Mugabe, who stepped down following the intervention of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.
Emmerson Mnanagwa, who was sacked by Mugabe aided by G40 comprising disgraced party leaders like Professor Jonathan Moyo and Saviour Kasukuwere, is the new president of Zimbabwe.
Chiwanza played a key role in campaigning for Chiyangwa in the run up to the ZIFA presidential election.
