Government spokesman Issa Tchiroma Bakary has expressed disappointment, following CAF’s decision to withdraw the 2019 AFCON hosting rights from Cameroon.
The Minister made the statement in a press briefing granted this December 1, 2018 in Yaounde.
This is the first official statement made by the government of Cameroon a day after the Confederation of African Football revealed that the country was not ready to host the 2019 African cup of Nation.
During the press briefing which took place at the Ministry of Communication, Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary disclosed that the CAF decision was a surprise to Cameroon.
“This surprising decision for more than one reason is certainly unfair with regard to the huge investments made by our country, which has led to outstanding modern infrastructure as witnessed by all. In the same vein, this decision is unmerited considering the resolve of the Head of State and the people of Cameroon to make all-out effort to host a remarkable celebration of African Football in 2019”.
Minister Tchiroma on behalf of the government has called on the population to stay calm and not engage into futile polemics, which can hinder the image of the Republic of Cameroon.
The press conference was also an opportunity for the Minister, government spokesman to assure the public opinion that, all sports facilities under construction or renovation will be completed in due time as promised by the Head of State, President Paul Biya.
