In a heartbreaking development, Zanele ‘MaZet’ Maseko, the leader singer of multi-award-winning Afro-Pop music group Mina Nawe has died. The songstress was 36-years-old.
MaZet’s death was confirmed by her music group through a social media post over the weekend. Mina Nawe revealed that the talented songstress died over the weekend on Sunday, 12th April 2020. However, information surrounding the cause of death is yet to be revealed.
Writing on microblogging site Twitter on Sunday, Mina Nawe said,
It is with shattered hearts to announce that we’ve lost a big part of who we are as a band & family – our songstress Zanele ‘Mazet’ Maseko passed away this morning. We humbly ask for your support during this difficult time as we hold hands with her family, friends & colleagues.
Public relations manager for the group, Nkosiphambili Molapisi, told the Sunday World that Masemola died in hospital, from an undisclosed illness on Sunday.
“Yes, Mazet did pass away on Sunday. We will give you the necessary information before the end of business today; tomorrow is the latest as the family will only be getting a full report from the hospital today, since yesterday was a public holiday,” said Molapisi.
Mina Nawe was popular in the early 2000s, and produced the hit singles “Where I wanna be”; “Kuse Kuse” and ”Njalo.”
In 2006 Mina Nawe won the prestigious Best Afro Album award at the Metro FM Music Awards. In the same year, the group was nominated for the Best Pop Album at the 12th SA Music Awards.
