A top Chinese Coronavirus researcher, who was reportedly on the verge of making a Covid-19 scientific breakthrough, was killed in a suspected murder, suicide case.
Dr Bing Liu, 37, was found dead in his home in Pennsylvania, US, on Saturday from multiple gunshot wounds, including a head wound.
The case is being treated as a murder-suicide.
A second man, Hao Gu (46), who is suspected to be the shooter, was also found dead in a nearby car in Ross Township.
The police believe he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The two are believed to have known each other.
“Investigative leads developed throughout the weekend have led us to believe that the male from the car shot and killed the man in the townhome before returning to his own car and taking his own life.” said the police.
Gu is said to have entered Dr Liu’s home and assaulted him before shooting him.

Dr Liu is believed to have been making great strides with his Coronavirus research.
Dr Liu was a research assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine and was an expert in “computational modelling and analysis of biological systems dynamics.”
“He was just starting to obtain interesting results,” Ivet Bahar, the head of the computational and system biology said.
The university said Dr Liu was on the verge of a breakthrough and had made significant findings in understanding cellular mechanisms that underlie SARS-CoV-2 infection and the cellular basis of the following complications
The University vowed to complete his work so as to continue his legacy.
Dr Liu co-authored at least 30 publications and was described as patient, intelligent and very mature.
The university said he will be missed very much.
