George Floyd who was killed by the American police after being pinned to the ground by a white Minnesota police officer kneeling on his neck for several minutes.
This incident has triggered outrage and protests across the United States. The arrest, which was captured on video, showed the 46-year-old restaurant worker handcuffed gasping for air and pleading that he can’t breathe. People all around the globe have been protesting through social media against racism and standing up for what is right for society.
Our beauty queens have also always used their voice and platform to speak for the right cause, have expressed their anger, distress, and sadness over the homicide and have joined the world to fight for justice for George under #blacklivesmatter.
The incident which spread like fire over the internet shook humanity to the core and people could not stay calm anymore. Miss World 2000 Priyanka Chopra also expressed her feelings in a post captioned, “There is so much work to be done and it needs to start at an individual level on a global scale. We all have a responsibility to educate ourselves and end this hate. End this race war here in the US, and around the world. Wherever you live, whatever your circumstances, NO ONE deserves to die, especially at the hands of another because of their skin colour. George, I am praying for your family. #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd”
Our reigning Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, also spoke about the brutal murder that happened in broad daylight, saying, “This is that time! This time you don't get to sit this one out. You don't get to turn a blind eye. As a human being, it should also be your obligation to fight against racism and for another human's life. As uncomfortable as it may be, we need to root this thing from the bottom up. Your silence is painful. Remember the words of Elie Wiesel "Neutrality helps the oppressor never the victim". To not choose sides is to actually choose aside. I need you to say something. The time is always right to do what is right. So pull up! #BlackLivesMatter”
The queen who hung her crown for the sake of humanity, Miss England 2019 Dr. Bhasha Mukherjee also strongly reacted to this incident and said, “Why is this still happening? Has COVID taught us nothing? How is it that a man like this Man's perpetrator is allowed to walk free? And thousands like him will continue to because we will continue to allow it. Two days later we will forget George Floyd and we will forget how many Bame key workers we lost to COVID. Just like we forgot how the Vietnam war saw more deaths of black soldiers because black men were preferentially chosen to GO TO WAR AND LAY THEIR LIVES. History repeats. History will repeat. And just like that our governments do nothing to protect innocent civilians like George from the hands of his perpetrator, or the brave Bame key workers from the hands of COVID. And the old WORLD order will resume. Sadly. Disgusted. #blacklivesmatter #Bamelivesmatter #alllivesmatter #georgefloyd”
The gorgeous Rachel Slawson Miss Utah USA 2020 said, she is privileged as a white woman. Being queer does not diminish white privilege. I believe that #blacklivesmatter and these voices need to be heard, this rage needs to be heard. She expressed her pain in a post captioned, “Yes it hurts to look. But we cannot look away. To be silent is to agree with the one who tries to silence.
#justiceforgeorgefloyd” She further added, “I believe in a world that listens to the rage and pain of our brothers and sisters. That puts an end to police brutality once and for all. That takes a stand against injustice. And I believe in a world that creates this through our voices, not violence. Brutality is brutality, no matter who authors it. I am taking this time to be actively anti-racist by addressing any of my own leftover racist biases.

I believe we all deserve equality and peace, and that activism and peaceful protest is the correct path to fight injustice. I pray this time may be a time of awareness to unearth the rot in this country and in ourselves, and unite as a human family. We mend together, we are one.”
