Branches of South Africa’s leading health and beauty chain were picketed, petrol-bombed and wrecked yesterday after posting an advert that described a black woman’s hair as “frizzy, dull and damaged” and a white woman’s blonde hair as “normal”.
Supporters of the Economic Freedom Fighters party were deployed to “attack” Clicks stores across the country after the retailer failed to meet its demands to shut up shop over the promotion, which appeared on Friday.
“If any store of Clicks is open, inform the EFF, we’ll come there and we’ll close it. We are tired of white arrogance,” Julius Malema, the party’s leader, told his 3.2 million followers on Twitter.
