In a sad development, one of the greatest football players of all time, Diego Armando Maradona has died. According to reports coming in from Argentina, Maradona died today following a cardiac arrest. He was 60.
Maradona who was working as the head coach of Argentine Primera División club Gimnasia de La Plata was hospitalized just a few days after celebrating his 60th birthday on October 30. At the time he was complaining of fatigue and low spirits.
He was later operated on after medical tests revealed that he had a blood clot in the brain. The surgery went well and the doctors were able to remove the blood clot. Following the surgery, Maradona was released from the hospital so that he could finish his recovery at home, 8 days after he had been admitted.

Maradona had a highly illustrious career in which he played for Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli, Sevilla and Newell’s Old Boys as a player. After hanging up his football boots, Maradona went into management and was the coach of Racing Club, Dorados, Gimnasia as well as the Argentina national team.
While playing for the Argentina national football team, Maradona was instrumental in leading Argentina to their second World Cup triumph in 1986. The diminutive left-footed forward captained the team that defeated West Germany in the final to lift the coveted trophy. He was also responsible for the infamous ‘Hand of God’ that eliminated England from the 1986 tournament.
In the same match, he also “…scored what has been described as the ‘goal of the century’ – collecting the ball in his own half before embarking on a bewitching, mazy run that left several players trailing before he rounded Shilton to score.”
