Self-proclaimed Prophet and leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG), church, prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary Bushiri have been granted bail at R200K each.
The much-awaited bail has been granted to the Bushiri’s after the couple spent a few weeks detained while waiting for their bail verdict.
The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court released the Bushiris on bail set at R200k each.
As part of their bail conditions, the duo has been barred from travelling outside of the Gauteng Province. The Magistrate Court also ordered the two to surrender their estate title deeds.
In addition to that, the Bushiri’s are also banned from making any contact with state witnesses.
According to The Chronicle, the accused was barred from making threats to congregants and those who do not follow them.
Meanwhile, their accomplices were also granted bail. Landiwe Ntlokwana got R100 000, while Mudolo and his wife Zethu got R20 000.
The group was arrested on the 19th of October on charges of theft, money laundering, and fraud, amounting to R102 million by the Hawks.
The Bushiris are also allegedly in the country illegally, meaning a possible contravention of certain provisions of the Immigration Act.
Prophet Bushiri’s supporters are elated that Prophet and prophetess Bushiri were granted bail at last. Prior to the successful bail application today, the duo has seen their case being postponed three times since they were arrested on the 19th of October.
