Lawyer and politician Fadzayi Mahere is demanding US$100 000 from Kukurigo Editor Edmund Kudzayi in defamation charges.
Recently, Kukurigo published an exclusive exposé that was widely shared on WhatsApp. In the exposé, Kukurigo alleged that Mahere’s affair resulted in the collapse of Tinashe Murapata popularly known as Baba Nyenyedzi’s marriage.
In a response, Fadzayi Mahere through her lawyers denied having an affair with Murapata. She demanded an apology and retraction from Edmund Kudzayi within 24 hours and threatened to institute legal proceedings against the Kukurigo boss if he failed to do so.
In the latest development, Mahere is seeking US$100 000 from Kudzayi. Apart from the US$100 000 in damages, Fadzayi Mahere wants Edmund Kudzayi to pay interest on the amount from the date the summons were served to him.
Part of Mahere’s declaration filed with the High Court reads:
Payment in the sum of US$100 000.00 being defamation damages;
Interest on the above sum of money from the date of service of summons to the date of payment in full at the prescribed rate;
Costs of suit.
In response, Edmund Kudzayi said Fadzayi Mahere will receive nothing from him. Writing on his official Twitter account, an unfazed Kudzayi doubled down on his views about Mahere. He said:

He further claimed that the summons were delivered to him on WhatsApp. Kudzayi wrote:

They were sent to me via WhatsApp. Same with their letter of demand. Mahere knows that’s not my address, but wishes to cause emotional distress to the residents there. She’s as cruel as she looks.
