A Seke man who broke into another villager's house and stole sugar, powdered milk, two cellphones that he sold for $2, has been jailed for one and half years.
The stolen goods were valued at $80.
Tapiwa Chirunga (22) of Chinamano Village in Seke said he was unable to restitute the complainant, Sibonile Munyaka.
He pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and theft as charged when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Kudakwashe Jarabini.
He was sentenced to two years in jail but six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
Prosecutor Mrs Pauline Munodawafa proved that on March 7 this year at around 10am, at Majonga Village in Seke, Munyaka locked her house and went to Seke Teachers' College.
Chirunga broke into the house and stole 4kg of sugar, powdered milk, a pair of sneakers and two cellphones. He went on to sell the phones to Emidio Munemo for $2.
Chirunga was then spotted wearing the stolen shoes at a growth point by Jim Zvaviruka who alerted Munyaka.
The latter then reported the matter to the police leading to Chirunga's arrest.
The sugar and powdered milk was recovered hidden in a bush.
