UNITED Family International Church (UFIC) founder Emmanuel Makandiwa's followers yesterday claimed their leader had been vindicated for his forecast on the imminent collapse of a "great wall" that would affect millions if no action was taken to avert the crisis.
This follows reports that Kariba Dam wall was facing imminent collapse as its foundation had developed cracks.
Thousands of Makandiwa's admirers yesterday took to social media praising their "spiritual father", saying he was a true prophet who foretold an imminent disaster.
In January last year, Makandiwa told thousands of his followers during the New Year's cross-over celebrations that: "I am seeing an old wall saying, ‘I am tired, I am getting tired and who will help me?
I need to rest' and the wall is coming down and I am seeing thousands perishing and the nation going into darkness. It's now up to the authorities, if they are going to save money or they are going to save lives."
My Zimbabwe News yesterday published an article about the condition of Kariba Dam wall and credited Prophet Makandiwa for having 'prophesied' about it over 12 months ago. The 'prophecy' has however, left Zimbabweans divided and insulting each other as Makandiwa's critics were not impressed with seeing credit being given to the man of God. UFI followers also downplayed the fact that the Kariba Dam wall issue has been common knowledge for nearly a decade now.
"Prophet Makandiwa mentioned this during 2012-2013 crossover night at UFIC Chitungwiza, (former energy minister) (but) Elton Mangoma downplayed it (and) small wonder he expired as a minister," one of the followers said.
"This is not a technology problem, learn to listen to the prophet of God, Prophet Makandiwa," another follower commented on the website.
But critics said the matter was already in the public domain for a decade when Makandiwa made the alleged prophecy.
"Zvazvakataurwa naMangoma 2 years ago wani," said one Anon E Mass on My Zimbabwe website.
Another reader who identified himself as Tazvida said: "I read about the damwall long back. Kariba has always been under some monitoring. So I urge you to consider again what you call prophecy. everyone who reads knows of the looming danger posed by the 'great wall'".
One more cheeky comment reads: "This is not prophecy because if it has been talked about for the past 6 years how is that chiporofita? So from 2012 to 2018 that's fembera fembera, if Makandiwa wants to be believed he should say 'I see the Kariba Wall collapsing in September of 2014'. Give us a specific time not so many years. Even the authorities know that it will collapse anytime in those years. Usapedze nguva yedu tell us WHERE THE DISAPPEARED MALAYSIAN PLANE MH370 IS tione chiporofita chako."
Responding to Makandiwa's comments, former Energy minister Mangoma said: "I think he (Makandiwa) should have heard it from somewhere as it's now common knowledge. When we opened the floodgates it (the water) ate into the rock underneath the foundation. It's called plunge pool so there are consultants who are designing how they will stop the erosion. They have been on the ground for some time now. Both Zimbabwe and Zambia are ensuring that something is done."
Makandiwa, now widely regarded as one of the most influential personalities in the country, has been in the limelight for his prophecies. In one of the prophecies, he said Zimbabwe was headed for a gold rush that would see people in most parts of the country "picking" the precious mineral from the ground.
But one Mai Gamu, who has for the past few years been commenting positively about Prophet Makandiwa on My Zimbabwe News had no kind words for those who are against her spiritual father.
"My Papa is mightly used by GOD in as much as people don't like him. Before i would be infuriated when people criticise him, then I realised that most of these people are anti CHRIST&they have serious spiritual issues. A lot of things he has prophesied have come to pass, e.g the coming up of Prophets I quote 'You think am the only Prophet, no!no!no! ZIMBABWE is going to get men with no integrity who will ignore holiness & righteousness but will concentrate on gifts. So whatever people say don't matter. But I pray that the Journos consider how many souls they disturb before publishing negative stuff.' May GOD THE FATHER & LORD JESUS bless you all. Proudly UFIC daughter of Prophet Papa E Makandiwa," wrote Mai Gamu.
