HARARE - Jailed Robert Martin Gumbura’s RMG Independent End Time Message Church has been renamed Rock Revelation Independent End Time Message Ministries.

Willard Mukodzi, the RMG deacons’ representative, confirmed the development. The change was made following an extraordinary meeting of the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) held last week.
Mukodzi said they were working hand in glove with ACCZ executive president Johannes Ndanga, through his Administrative Court, to lift the church’s suspension.
“I can reliably confirm that we have discussed and pleaded with ACCZ’s Administrative Court to uplift or grant us with certificate of temporal gathering which allows us to hold elections for the new leadership for the proposed Rock Revelation Independent End Time Message Ministries in line with ACCZ recommendations and dictates,” Mukodzi said.
“With that certificate therefore, it grants us permission to hold elections for the purpose of selecting and mapping an interim church leadership (ICL) and structure while on the other hand, the elected ICL to assume office and responsibility immediately upon being elected and handle church matters concerning the drafting of a new constitution for RR Independent End Time Message Ministries as recommended by ACCZ.”
Joseph Pagan’a, the ACCZ’s spokesperson, confirmed the development saying there are several requirements that must be met before the lifting of RMG Independent End Time Message Church’s suspension.
“It is vital for the church to be renamed since its former leader was convicted and it is impossible for the church to be associated with convicts, so people should not suffer at the expense of Gumbura,” Pagan’a said.
Gumbura is currently serving a 40-year prison term after being convicted on four counts of raping church congregants.
“Thus the new name marks the dawn of a new era and leadership and the church (even its assets) should not be personalised and governance powers should not be vested in an individual or a clique of individuals hence the church should serve to unite the family and not cause divorces among spouses,” Pagan’a said.
