On the eve of Jah Prayzah’s album launch the musician said he was expecting about 5 000 people to attend the event. The musician was responding to some people who questioned the capacity of the musician to use such a big venue for an album launch.
However the musician’s dream did not materialise as he failed to attract the expected crowd. A number of senior Government officials including Tourism and Hospitality Minister Walter Mzembi, Mashonald East Provincial Affairs Minister Simba Mudarikwa, Deputy Minister of Indigenisation and Empowerment Tendai Savanhu, army officials among others graced the event.
Oliver Mtkudzi , Winky D, Suluman Chimbetu, Maskiri, Albert Nyathi, Shinsoman, Amara Brown, Kinnah, comedians Mabla 10, Kapfupi, David Machowa aka Apama and Sekuru Zvambu and promoters Partson Chimbodza and Fidelis Ngove were part of the guests as well.
The event that was scheduled for 7 pm started late as the organisers apparently looked forward to more people coming forward.
Different artistes took to the stage with Mudarikwa joining Amara on the dance floor much to the delight of the audience.
In the speech read on behalf of the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Constantine Guveya Chiwenga, by Major-General Trust Mugova, the ZDF boss congratulated the musician for the launch of the album and urged Zimbabweans to support local artistes.
“The album is an addition to his successful earlier albums like ‘Tsviriyo’ on both CD and DVD, which scooped the Outstanding Album, Outstanding Song, Outstanding Male artiste, Outstanding Video and the People’s Choice Award at NAMA 2013,” Chiwenga said.
“As music is a powerful tool that shapes character and defines who we are as a people, progressive artistes should, through their music positively contribute in their own special way to the socio- economic development of our nation.
“I therefore challenge you Jay Prayzah and your colleagues to reflect on your current music contribution to the development of the nation,” he said.
The CD was bought at $ 2,400 by an unidentified fan but the cash is yet to be delivered. Maskiri and Shinsoman introduced themselves in a big way on the event with their songs “Wenera” and “Mawayawaya”.
Sulumani was next on stage and the musician was joined by his cousin Douglas fellow artistes Kapfupi and Apama who left the audience in stitches with his comical routines. Jah Prazyah was the last musician to perform and the musician gave a simple test of his new offering “Kumbumura Mhute”, which was well received by the crowd.
