Dynamos Football Club striker Rodrick Mutuma has had a colourful sporting career dating back from his childhood days in the dusty streets of Mvuma to the big city lights of Harare and then Bloemfontein in South Africa.
With all his achievements in sport, the gangly striker did not abandon his other passion — arts and music.
He has poured in some financial resources to a budding arts organisation called Tione Chipo Chako Arts — the brainchild behind the inaugural Mash Central Talent Expo set to be held in September.
Mutuma is assisting the arts organisation in mobilising resources and he is also a member of the organisation’s board of trustees, along with musicians Trevor Hall, Pauline Gundidza (Mafriq) and Tererai Mugwadi.
Senior superstar Oliver Mtukudzi is the patron of this youthful arts organisation that was founded by 25-year-old Leornard Chidziwa from Mvurwi.
“I have had so much passion for arts, especially music, and I felt it was right to play my part and promote that industry.
“I have already assisted some youths in my home area of Mvuma and now they have access to recording studios.
“I have joined hands with Tione Chipo Chako arts organisation because I realised that a lot of my fans in Mash Central like my style of play and I am told that some artistes have even sang praise songs for me and it is only right that I support them in as much as I can,” said Mutuma.
Mutuma revealed that he will preside over the auditions for the inaugural Mash Central talent expo on August 30 at Kimberly Reef Hotel in Bindura.
The Dynamos striker said he was courting artistes like the in-form dancehall artiste Soul Jah Love for possible collaborations with unheralded artistes from small towns.
“As a way of giving small town artistes exposure, I will be engaging established artistes like Soul Jah Love to do collaborations with them so that they gain mileage and exposure.
“There is so much talent in small towns,” he said.
