A 24 YEAR-OLD shopkeeper from Zaka, Masvingo, died after being struck several times on the head with a log for demanding her R5 coin from a customer.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the incident and said police have launched a man hunt for Norman Gurazheve, 28, a local villager for the murder of Grace Mberegwa.
Inspector Mazula said Gurazheve went to Mberegwa's work place at Mutero General Dealer located in Zaka and asked for a packet of biscuits which costs R5 or $0.50 and ate them before paying.
She said after consuming the biscuits, Gurazheve left the shop without paying and was followed by the shopkeeper who demanded payment.
"This did not go down well with Gurazheve who picked a log, and the shopkeeper sensed danger and she run back to the shop but was caught.
“She was struck on the back of the head several times before she fell unconscious," Mazula said.
After the incident Gurazheve fled the scene and his whereabouts are not known.
Mberegwa was discovered by her husband, Munyaradzi Muroyiwa who was left behind manning the shop when she followed Gurazheve.
She was rushed to Ndanga District Hopsital were she died on admission.
