A 53 year old man from Dzivarasekwa extension in Harare Friday appeared in court facing allegations of raping his 18 year old daughter.
Josphat Gwenjere was remanded to May 7 for his trial and was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Tendai Mahwe.
It is alleged that Gwenjere, who is the father to the victim, Fortunate Gwenjere, on April 12 at 1am entered his daughter’s bedroom where she was sleeping.
It is the state’s case that Gwenjere had taken the keys to his daughter’s bedroom a few weeks before the incident.
The state further outlines that Gwenjere’s daughter started feeling as if her boyfriend was caressing her.
Suddenly she woke up to find her father on top of her, having sexual intercourse with her.
The father was putting on his underwear only and he had removed his daughter’s pants and placed them aside.
On realising that it was her father, she pushed him off while she called for her younger sister who was in another bedroom.
Gwenjere allegedly fled to his bedroom but his daughter, who was already bleeding, could not sleep at all following the incident.
In the morning, Gwenjere reportedly confronted his daughter, ordering her not to tell anyone about had happened during the night.
She, however, told her young sister and her mother who has since divorced Gwenjere. The matter was then reported to the police and the daughter was referred to the hospital for medical examination.
