An Eastern Cape farmer and a woman from Stutterheim have entered into a plea agreement with the State after being arrested in a child prostitution case.
The two were arrested last year after the woman allegedly offered her daughter, who was 11 at the time, to the farmer for sexual purposes. It is also alleged that the woman had made her daughter recruit two other girls for the farmer.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson in the Eastern Cape, Tsepo Ndwalaza, said the man and woman faced 28 charges, including sexual exploitation of a child and human trafficking for sexual purposes.
Ndwalaza said the pair, who appeared in the Stutterheim Regional Court on Wednesday, had entered a plea deal with the State.
“As part of their plea deal, the accused wanted to have some of the charges against them dropped, but the State prosecutor was not happy with that,” he said.
Ndwalaza said after discussions in court on Wednesday, a plea agreement was reached, with all 28 charges remaining against the couple.
He said following the agreement on Wednesday, the two are appearing in court again, on Thursday for the court to determine their sentencing. News24
