‘Leftover Woman’ Sues Dating Site After Spending £1,600 On Two Dates – Still Single And P***ed Off

A woman has sued a Beijing matchmaking company after incurring costs of more than 16,000 yuan (roughly £1,600), only to find herself still solitary.

The 41-year-old claimed she paid 10,000 yuan (£1,000) to sign up to the site and recorded no other requirements in her ideal match beyond ‘unmarried’ and ‘undergraduate education level’.

The company proceeded to set up two dates for her. Both times, the men did not want a second meeting.

According to Sina News, the woman then asked the site to arrange more dates, only to be informed that she had to pay another 6,000 yuan to upgrade to become a ‘VIP member’.

Despite paying the fee, she was not offered any other prospective candidates.

The manager of the site responded by saying that because of her age, it would be difficult to find a divorced or unmarried man.

The court in Chaoyang District, Beijing, reached a settlement on Wednesday, and the company was forced to refund the £600 ‘VIP membership’ fare but not the original sign-up fee.

Local media outlets described the woman as ‘leftover’, referring to the common nickname given to single women who are older than 27.

Despite an enormous imbalance between the number of young men and women in China, 50 per cent of single men think women who are still single at 25 are ‘leftovers’.

There are around 20 million more men than women under the age of 30.
