Merry Christmas Jose! Mourinho Sacked After Festive Meal With Chelsea Players And Staff

JOSE MOURINHO is said to have enjoyed Christmas dinner with his players and staff just hours before he was fired as Chelsea boss.

The Special One was at the club's Cobham training ground for their annual party before he was ruthlessly sacked.

The decision was given to him by Chelsea officials Bruce Buck and Eugene Tenenbaum at around 2pm in a 10-minute meeting.

The Daily Mirror reports Mourinho was completely unaware his second spell at the club was about to come to an abrupt end.

Chelsea are just one point above the relegation zone after suffering nine Premier League defeats in their opening 16 games.

Having survived the 2-1 defeat to Leicester on Monday, Mourinho thought he would be in charge for the home game against Sunderland this weekend but Roman Abramovich chose to make a change.

The Portuguese boss will return to Chelsea's Cobham training ground to say his goodbyes tomorrow.

The club are willing to pay his £250,000-a-week wages until he finds another job.

After the sacking Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo said: "While there's huge sentiment for the individual who has done so much for the club, the fact of the matter is Chelsea Football Club is in trouble.

"The results aren't good. There seems to be a palpable discord between manager and players and we feel it is time to act.

"The owner is forced to make what was a very tough decision for the good of the club.

"Make no mistake about it, Chelsea Football Club is one of the biggest clubs in the world and is one point above relegation in the English Premier League. That's not good enough.

"Anybody, any fan, or those who have any kind of affiliation to the club can understand this club is in trouble. Something needed to be done."
