Mesut Ozil Set To Become The First Player In Premier League History To Wear Laceless Boots

Mesut Ozil is on a one-man mission to break every Premier League record that dares to step in his path.

In the 2002/03 season, Thierry Henry managed a record 20 Premier League assists, a feat matched by no other player since.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez, David Silva are among the world-class names that have failed to provide as many goals for their team-mates.

So Henry’s record looked set to stand the test of time – until Mesut Ozil arrived, that is.

Having notched 16 assists this season, the German has 16 fixtures left to find five of more killer passes to beat the record held by the Arsenal legend – and he’ll do so wearing iconic footwear.

On Sunday, when Arsenal take on Chelsea at the Emirates, Ozil will become the first ever Premier League footballer to don laceless boots with the latest adidas Ace 16+:

‘My whole career I have tried to minimise the impact of laces on my strike and ball control,’ says Ozil.

‘I revealed to adidas in 2014 that in the changing room I knot the laces over and over again and then tuck in the ends – that way they do not interfere with my touch.

‘So when they came to me last year with the laceless boots, it was like they have created my dream product. I cannot wait to wear them on the pitch.’
