When it comes to smartphone launches (or even leaks and rumors pertaining to the said launches), there's hardly a technology company that generates more hype and buzz than Apple. And with the latest piece of news, the Cupertino based tech giant has done it again.
According to KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo (probably the most popular and reliable Apple analyst), the iPhone 8 will come with an all-glass body and make its debut in 2017. Not only that, the analyst also notes that the iPhone 8 will sport an AMOLED screen, as opposed to the IPS LCD panel that has been the standard for all the iPhone models till now. TheAMOLED screen is said to be used to compensate for the extra weight added to the device because of the all-glass casing.
While people might say that an all-glass body would make the iPhone less durable and prone to damage, Apple has used glass as the primary shell construction material for its smartphones in the past (with the iPhone 4 and 4s). Even more so, an all-glass iPhone 8 makes a lot of sense for Apple. The aluminum design has gotten pretty stale by now, and the smartphone manufacturer definitely needs something fresh. The fact that Apple's biggest competitor Samsung has gone for glass backs for its latest duo of Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge flagships, makes the whole thing even more exciting.

Another design refresh for the iPhone 8 next year could also mean that Apple is moving towards the yearly hardware upgrade pattern, ditching the "new design every two years" strategy it follows presently. Interestingly, the company has also stated recently that it expects iPhones to last an average of three years. More frequent design upgrades could mean that consumers can get a fresh looking iPhone ever year, and that's certainly a good thing for everyone.
