Usain Bolt has 'never run an entire mile in his life'

Usain Bolt has been declared the fastest man on the planet with six Olympic gold medals to his name.

But Usain Bolt has never run a mile in his life, according to his agent Ricky Simms.

Despite the Jamaican sprinter’s dominance in the 100 and 200-metre dashes, he has never once attempted four laps around the track—or in other words, a mile.

The startling admission was reported in an article from the New Yorker titled: “How fast would Usain Bolt run the mile?’

In the piece, writer Charles Beathea speculates how the 29-year-old athlete would stack up against Hitcham El Guerrouj of Morrocco who set the world record in 1999 by running one mile in three minutes, forty-three seconds and thirteen hundredths of a second.

But in an email to the freelance journalist, Mr Simms confirmed his client has in fact, never tried to run that far.

“Usain has never run a mile,” he wrote. The countdown is on for Bolt, who competes in the men's 100m event on 14 August, the 200m event on 18 August and the men's 4x100 relay on 19 August, at this year’s Rio Olympic Games.
