A 30-year-old Odzi man and his minor stepdaughter are on trial here over incest. The man from Nyamajura and his 15-year-old daughter are being tried by magistrate Tendai Mahwe.
They are being charged with having se_xual in_tercourse within a prohibited degree of relationship as defined in section 75 of Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act chapter 9:23.
It is the State’s case that the two even eloped together to another village where they were staying as husband and wife between mid-September and November 3.
The man had left with the girl claiming that they were seeking employment elsewhere.
The girl’s mother only discovered the relationship on November 3 when she quizzed the girl about her suspicions which she confirmed.
A police report was made leading to the arrest of the duo over their consensual se_xual relationship.

In denying the charges, the man is alleging that the girl is his wife’s sister.
