Eyewitness News understands that Zimbabwean first lady Grace Mugabe has failed to meet a deadline to hand herself over to police, as per agreement and her lawyers are now talking to police in Sandton.
She was due to appear in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon.It's not yet been confirmed exactly what charges she will face, but Mugabe is accused of assaulting a woman on Sunday night at a Sandton hotel.
The 20-year-old apparently sustained injuries to her face. It's unclear what sparked the incident, but it's being reported Mugabe found the woman in a hotel room with her son.
The woman says she was throttled with an extension cord.
Earlier it was reported that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) was waiting for a docket at the Randburg Magistrates Court.
Mbalula has confirmed that the first lady was expected in court on Tuesday.
He says this is not acceptable.
“You can’t just go everywhere and assault people and so on. People will report these cases to the police.”
In a statement released on Tuesday, the South African Police Services has also confirmed that a 20-year-old woman registered a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm on Monday evening.
According to the Zimbabwe Mail, Mugabe was in South Africa to have her foot examined after a freak accident.

Sources say Mugabe failed to honour an agreement to hand herself over to the police at 10, and that only her lawyers rocked up at the police station.
In fact, the source in the police says the first lady has broken the legal agreement she had with the police and therefore are even preparing a warrant for arrest for her.
Some prosecutors at the Randburg Magistrates Court are frustrated that there is no docket yet on Grace Mugabe despite the Police Minister confirming that she handed herself over and would appear in court.
The court sits only until 4 pm and prosecutors are still unclear on whether the first lady will surely appear on Tuesday or not.
The police have released a statement this afternoon confirming that the investigation into this case has already reached an advanced stage.
Speaking to Cape Talk's Kokesto Sachane on Monday night, Gabriella Engels confirmed that Mugabe assaulted her in a hotel room in Sandton when she found her in her sons' hotel room.

Although she could not get into the details of what transpired, Engels says she had only recently met one of Mugabe’s sons and was in the presence of other friends when the assault occurred.
“I had no clue who this woman was when she started beating me. I didn’t know that Delamin was Mugabe’s son. I only found out when I ran out of the hotel room.
“The police were very helpful when I opened the case. They took care of me.”
