The Cameroonian authorities hope to obtain the arrest and extradition of at least 15 individuals.
The Cameroonian authorities have issued international arrest warrants against several secessionist activists involved in the ongoing events in the northwestern and southwestern regions. The exclusive information obtained by Le Jour shows "files prepared, assembled and transmitted to the international police in a single phase". The preparation of the mandates in question mobilized senior police, gendarmerie, judiciary, as well as special agents "before but especially after 22 September 2017", it was learned from one of the officials been in contact with the case.
On September 22nd, the general protest movement in the English-speaking regions was peppered with violence and acts, including the raising of the flags of the so-called "Ambazonia" republic before several state services. These events, we learned, have pushed the entourage of the Head of State to accelerate the process of prosecution envisaged early May 2017, but delayed in favor of negotiated solutions.
Breaking News - International Arrest Warrants Issued Against Secessionists |
"Remember that the leader of secessionists, Sissiku Ayuk Tabe, is among the sponsors of violence against schoolchildren and security agents," said a Cameroonian police official, without giving details of the qualification of the facts motivating the awarding of the mandates.
Also cited as a target under the mandates is Wilfried Tassang, founding member of the Consortium of Anglophone Civil Society Organizations, dissolved, now very active in the interim government set up by the secessionists. In all likelihood, the authorities hold the secessionist leaders accountable for the deteriorating security situation in the northwest and southwest.
The Day has also learned that the issue of warrants has been previously discussed between Yaoundé and some Western capitals. This could facilitate the execution of mandates.-->
