France condemned the new assassinations of law enforcement officials that took place on 1 February in the southwestern region of Cameroon, which for more than a year had been facing secessionist demands.
In a statement released on Thursday, its Foreign Ministry reiterated its call for the cessation of violence, calling all actors to restraint and believing that only the dialogue will respond, in a peaceful and concerted manner, to the concerns of all parties, while respecting the unity and integrity of the country. For Paris, it is about a message passed "also to the Cameroonian authorities", in close consultation with the European and international partners.

To the Cameroonian public authorities, Washington calls for respect for human rights, including the right to due process of the 47 newly extradited secessionists in Nigeria.
"We urge Cameroon and Nigeria to fulfill their obligations under international law to refrain from forcibly returning asylum seekers to their country of origin," reads the document. The United States indicates that it expects Cameroon to grant these persons and others the rights and protections enshrined in the country's Constitution, in accordance with its international obligations and commitments.
These repeated appeals to belligerents, it is noted, come at a time when violence is not weakening on the ground, marked in particular by new killings of gendarmes and the kidnapping, on Sunday, of a sub-prefect in the locality of Batibo (South West) and has not heard from them yet.
And while these insurgent and unclaimed acts multiply, on February 10, on the occasion of his traditional message to the youth of the country, President Paul Biya declared that "the situation is stabilizing in the Southwest and the Northwest, "a climate that should allow the Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, recently put in place," to tackle the heart of the problem.
