The International Crisis Group (ICG), in a report published on Thursday, April 26 had made it clear that the socio-political crisis affecting the English-speaking regions of Cameroon is "getting worse".
"We have gone from sporadic small attacks to today armed militias, nearly a dozen, who have formed, and who are increasingly well armed, and who even control portions of territory, especially in rural areas of the southwestern region. The risk is very high today that things can deteriorate further and even slide into civil war. It seems clear to us that as we approach the presidential election in September or October 2018, violence and attacks in the English-speaking regions will increase, "explained Hans De Marie Heungoup, Political scientist and Senior Analyst for Central Africa at ICG.

According to him, "The Cameroonian government benefits from a daily plebiscite of all the populations of the north-west and south-west regions of our country"
And to continue "it is a tiny minority, extremist and violent, which wants to impose on the populations by killing, massacring, amputating. But all of our national territory today is under the control of our administration. And the sufficiently dissuasive presence of our defense and security forces naturally helps to remove these violent terrorists from our borders. But what I can tell you is that the civil war, there will not be any.
